Nichola Te Kiri: Contemporary artworks from Aotearoa: to wear, to treasure and journey with.
Friends of Maori artist and designer Nichola Te Kiri began to notice a growing collection of inspired contemporary jewellery gathering dust in her cabin studio. In November 2011 they took action and created a Facebook group as an avenue to promote and sell the taonga Nichola was developing. Word got out: interest grew and demand for pieces increased. Nichola Te Kiri was born.
Each Nichola Te Kiri taonga springs from Nichola’s rich Maori and Pakeha ancestry and weaves echoes of Maori mythology and legend and the natural environment to anchor it in the now. Each taonga of Nichola Te Kiri has a story, a story that will resonate with your story whoever you are, whatever your background to form a living taonga that will become part of you to inspire you on your journey.
Nichola Te Kiri is constantly evolving. Nichola’s first taonga were polymer clay and bead earrings. She now creates unique contemporary resin, wood, perspex and mixed media pieces. What is common to all Nichola’s work is beauty and integrity. They are still handcrafted, still made at home. Nichola Te Kiri pieces honour Aotearoa’s heritage and soul. They will feed your soul.
