Here at Nichola, we are always looking at ways to reduce our impact on Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), by making better choices around materials and processes and by reusing and reducing our waste. These head wraps are an example of us reducing waste. They are made from off-cuts (of items we have made before) or by using end of line material.
We have printed (using water based fabric paint) our Ahau design on them using a wood printing technique, which gives each garment a unique and individualise flavour, as it is handprinted and no two are exactly alike.
About the design: AHAU
Ahau (me, I) is about the relationships we have with ourselves. Ahau isn’t a collection but a kaupapa (topic/purpose) it is the ongoing conversation of building a good and positive relationship with ourselves. Whatever that looks like for you.
