Discover the latest additions to our lamp collection: the ngutu kākā and kaokao patterns (each available on separate listings). These charming lamps are not just a source of ambient light; they double as whimsical earring holders, adding a touch of creativity to your space. Crafted with care, each lamp features a trio of panels: a sleek front perspex panel flanked by two elegantly crafted plywood sides, blending form and function beautifully.
About the design - Kowhaiwhai Ngutu kākā: This design refers to the kowhaiwhai pattern that represents both the ngutukākā plant and the beak of the kākā bird. The plant is a native shrub of Aotearoa and marks the start of spring. The kākā bird, a cheeky parrot, has red feathers under its wings. Māori associate the colour red with high rank, and only high-status people wore cloaks made with kākā feathers. Kākā were also kept as pets, and were often used as decoys when hunting other birds.
