At the centre sits a pou design alongside the words Ko Au Tēnei, a declaration of self, of knowing who you are and where you come from.

Surrounding the pou are three rings. While the element of three carries many meanings within Te Ao Māori, here they represent whānau:
 - tamariki within,
 - mātua surrounding,
 - and tīpuna beyond.
Each layer embracing and holding the next.

But like all stories, this one remains open.
